1:1 Breastfeeding Class. Not sure you want to talk about something so personal in front of other people? Perhaps your family needs more privacy? We can bring the class to you in the comfort of your own home and customize your information so it's perfect for you and your family. Are you new to breastfeeding, had problems the last time or just not sure it's for you? Don't worry, we'll make this as easy and happy as we can! Twin classes available too!
Prenatal Assessment. This is for women that are having their first baby or who have had difficulty with their previous child. It can be combined with the breastfeeding class! Was your last breastfeeding experience painful? Did you have a low supply or have a baby with jaundice the last time? We can make a plan of action that helps to prevent major difficulties and uncertainty. This is set up to go over all of your concerns, topics you're not sure of, and to go over in great detail how to work through the major hurdles of the first week postpartum. It comes with a written plan of action for the first three days and includes unlimited text support for the following year.
Initial Consult/Getting Started Consult. This involves a comprehensive health assessment for both the parent and the child. We'll start from the beginning and work our way forward. We like to focus on the timeline of events from pregnancy outward because it is possible to unravel where things might have gotten complicated or confusing. Often we find that early interventions is key, and many situations can be rectified and resolved easily. We'll review birth weight and subsequent ages and any health disturbances. We do a complete examination of your baby, observe for any problems and talk about what is seen and the solutions for it. Together we'll take a close look at breastfeeding, and we'll adjust your latching technique if needed. After we've identified areas of concern we'll work on a plan of action and devise a care plan together that works for your family. Your LC will stay until you feel confident. Runs about 2-3 hours, with text/email follow-up for the following year.
Slow or No Weight Gain Consult. If you have an infant that is crossing down growth chart lines, or who simply failing to meet benchmarks in weight gain this is for you. While not all situations merit an extremely in-depth conversation about feeding , oral aversion or dysphagia, this consult does. We'll take a long look at weight gain trending, breastfeeding management of low supply, IGT or evaluate for other mechanical reasons for decreased volume of milk. Your LC will review solids food readiness, and ways to encourage better eating and increased weight gain.
Too Much Milk Consult. We know it seems hard to believe that other mothers wish to have this problem but it's true, and you're probably tired of hearing about it. What we know is that babies dealing with a legitimate oversupply vomit up large quantities of milk, they are frequently arching and gassy, and yelling in pain. Infants can end up having frothy poops and a rashy bottom from all the copious pooping and loose green stools. The good news is that with a careful assessment and planning your can wrestle your supply under control and start enjoying breastfeeding in comfort.
Follow-Up. This is to evaluate for progress on weight gain, continued latching issues or a number of other concerns. Sometimes difficult issues require close following and more than one visit, including ones that involve bodywork for structural issues or tongue tie release. We are always happy to come revisit with new eyes, to make sure that nothing has been missed. If you are still having pain or feeling concerned, then we need to make time to see each other again.
Back to Work Consult. For parents returning to work there are many questions surrounding bottle or cup introduction. It's challenging to know if you have the correct pump flange fit! Is your pump the best one for you? What type of bottles should you use to prevent nipple confusion? How much milk should you leave? How long can breastmilk be stored? What if you have to use formula? We understand it's stressful. Together we can go over fitting you for the right size, make a plan for milk storage, start working on developing a stored milk supply, and maximizing your milk production! We can also talk about all the ins and outs of California breastfeeding laws in the workplace.
Bottle-Counseling with a Resistant Infant. Do you have a baby that has totally rejected alternative feeding methods besides breastfeeding? Are you returning to work or school, or just need a break? We totally understand and we can help you gentle your baby to a bottle or cup. We will discuss your the ideal situation for your family and then make a plan to get you there. 2 hours typical, with 3 weeks of text or email support included
